課程概述 |
Session 1: International trade and multilateral trading system in times of global crisis
Session 2: The World Trade Organization and its principal functions
Session 3: WTO rules on non-discrimination
Session 4: WTO rules on market access
Session 5: Exceptions to the WTO rules on non-discrimination and market access
Session 7: WTO rules on technical barriers to trade and sanitary and phytosanitary measures
Session 7: WTO rules of anti-dumping measures, subsidies, and countervailing measures
Session 8: Simulation exercise The Chip War
To obtain an authorization code, students interested in the course are kindly requested to contact the TA via email (R11A21103@ntu.edu.tw) before 23:59 on September 7th. Subsequently, the TA will conduct a lottery to determine who will receive the authorization codes the following day. For additional details, feel free to contact the TA. |

課程目標 |
The course introduces students to the international rules which govern global trade. The course focuses on the substantive and procedural rules of the WTO and discusses the relevance of these rules in addressing the main challenges facing the international community today, namely:
(a) the preservation of peace in times of increasing geopolitical confrontation; and
(b) the promotion of an effective but fair green transition to address the existential threat of climate change. |

課程要求 |
As the course will be taught in English and active participation in class and during the simulation exercise is expected, a good knowledge of English is required. Prior knowledge of public international law is useful but not necessary. |

預期每週課後學習時數 |
16 hours/week of reading (or two hours for each hour of lectures), and in addition 6 hours of preparation in small groups for the simulation exercise on 2 November 2023. |

Peter Van den Bossche & Denise Prévost, Essentials of WTO Law, 2nd edition (Cambridge University Press, 2021), supplemented with reading materials on the latest developments.
The students taking the class are required to have a copy (paper or e-book) of the WTO agreements as well as the principal textbook. |
